Electronic Dance Music (often times referred to as EDM or dance music) is electronic music with the purpose of being played in nightclub settings. The music was created by DJs with the intention of being heard of a continuous DJ set in their mix.
While EDM has made quite the name for itself, but EDM means more than “Excuse to Do drugs More.” Despite its reputation for bass drops, neon clothes and drugs, EDM began as something much more different.
Spotify decided to create the video ‘Deconstructing: How EDM Changed The World' which talks about how EDM first started with the help of Frankie Knuckles at the club The Warehouse. This sound would later be called house. In the video seen below, Spotify talks about the rise of dance music in Detroit and Brooklyn and the introduction of PLUR (Peace, Love, Unity and Respect).
