Over the past few years, Australia has become a center for churning out up and coming talent in the electronic music world. One of the most standout acts from the pack is the dynamic duo that is SLUMBERJACK. SLUMBERJACK has been in the game for many years from releasing iconic remixes for What So Not to Porter Robinson they know their way around the block. This time the duo is back fresh off the release of their ‘Fracture' EP which features 5 stellar tracks and has just been released on everyone's favorite label, Mad Decent. Let's dive right into the tracks, shall we?
Starting off the EP we have ‘Afraid, Unafraid'. The production on this track immediately stood out, the vocals are touching and sweet, Sydnee Carter rides over the production of the tune and thus creates a perfect pairing. The breakdown of the track is propelled by rapid hi-hats and deep and gliding synths. This song has a powerful meaning and it is definitely a standout track on the EP.
Track 2/5, welcome to ‘Paralyse'. If you have never heard a SLUMBERJACK tune before this is the quintessential track. The synth work is some of the most original we have heard in a long time. This track is wonky and is as creative as ever from the Australian duo. This track definitely will ‘leave your heart on paralyse' after hearing it and it is personally one of my favorites off of the EP.
‘Take Me' to track 3/5 featuring KLP! Well maybe I don't feature KLP but this track sure does and it is a perfect pairing. KLP does not provide much on the vocal except a few words and an ominous chant which builds upon the already dark production. Each drop evolves after the next and the last drop in the track is sure to bend your mind and your speakers. ‘Take Me' is definitely one of the harder tracks on the EP and if you are looking for something a little heavier this is the track for you.
Welcome to track 4/5. ‘Cradle to Grave' is a nothing less than a 3-minute journey of a song and nothing I can say will do it justice, just put both earbuds in and embark on the adventure that is this tune.
And rounding off the EP is the title track of ‘Fracture'. A wonderful closer to the EP, Fracture is filled with nothing but raw soul and emotion. Vera Blue really pours her feelings into every word that she sings throughout this track. The drop combines all of the best elements of future bass and trap to create a killer combination. Fracture comes in at 4 minutes and every second of this song is oozing with emotion.
