Rusko, the LA based dubstep and glitch producer, announced last week that he will be releasing his new EP called ‘KAPOW' for free and also that all of his upcoming material will also be given away for free. This is a bold move by Rusko artist to release their music for free, but Rusko said “It's about promotion and not profit – I want to give the fans the music in real time. If they can help me promote it too then it's essentially what a label does anyway but just without copyright restrictions… I just want everyone to be able have my music if they want it.”
Rusko is not the first major DJ to give away music for free, as Pretty Lights for some time now has been giving away his music for free. I hope more DJs can continue this trend in the future here.
