EDM Sauce had a few minutes with the American Trance Artist this past week, Sean Tyas. Sean Tyas is a New York native who now resides back in Switzerland.
Sean Tyas placed #93 on this year's DJ Mag Top 100. Catch our interview with the Trance superstar below.
Stevo: Hello Sean, For those who are not familiar with you, tell us about yourself?
Sean Tyas: I'm from the states originally, New York actually, and had moved over to Germany in 2004, and then eventually Switzerland in 2005. I was lucky enough to step into recognition with my track “Lift” in 2006, and through a series of remixes, reworks, and originals managed to build something from nothing. Also winning Sander van Doorn's remix competition for “Punk'd” that year CERTAINLY helped.
Stevo: What was it that got you into EDM?
Sean Tyas: Always loved the club/rave/party scene. What is not to love? The desire to create and learn just grew naturally from that love and passion. Maybe to be more specific, I'd say to watch visually how the music has its effect on a dancefloor. It really is pretty magical.
Stevo: Who are your inspirations?
Sean Tyas: Early on, artists like Prodigy & Moby then later as I became more interested in specific sounds, definitely Paul van Dyk was my main inspiration and muse.
Stevo: When do you feel like you had your big break and finally had time to show your music to the masses?
Sean Tyas: Yeah definitely 2006 with the release of Lift… It caught on with the bigger name trance DJs at the time like Ferry, Armin, & Tiesto and really helped expose my sound to a huge market.
Stevo: How would you define your style of music?
Sean Tyas: These days, a fusion of trance with a bit of the edge of techno & electro.
Stevo: What can we look forward to in the future for you and your music?
Sean Tyas: I really want to raise the bar more than ever in the next year or so, from a production standpoint. I'm also very excited to get my label Tytanium Recordings, first release in a couple of weeks!
