Now that Movement week has officially begun, and one thing is for sure that Toronto’s tech-house siren Sydney Blu, and her enchanted Blu Party: Detroit Edition, is a must to attend on Monday night concluding Eastern America's most important techno event, Movement Electronic Music Festival. With a huge lineup inducing Christian Martin, Gene Farris, and The Saunderson Brothers. In this interview, Sydney Blu talks about her afterparty, favorite part about Movement and new music, read on to hear more about this talented artist.
What is your favorite part about Movement Detroit?
“I love seeing everyone from all over North America come together to listen to the best music. Everyone has great taste that is in Detroit because it’s a great festival with amazing bookings.”
What’s your favorite part about Detroit?
“The music of course. I love so many DJs that play in Detroit. It’s so hard to pick what parties to go to. I also love how it’s right above Canada and there are so many Canadian’s there.”
For first timers going to Movement Detroit, what should they expect?
“Amazing music. Amazing afterparties. Raw Detroit vibes. It showcases the cities authenticity for sure.”
What are you most looking forward to besides your event during Movement Detroit?
“On top of the Blu Party, I’m looking forward to the event I’m playing on Sunday night in a very cool Warehouse called Canada Loves Detroit on 1000 Maple St in a very cool industrial warehouse. The event is going until about 7:00 AM. I’m also looking forward to Chuck Daniels party at Marble Bar and the festival of course.”
What are you most looking forward to at The BLU Party during Movement Detroit?
“Last year we had our event on a Friday. I’m excited to be doing a closing party this year as there are more people in town!”
What’s on the horizon for your label, Blu Music?
“Lot’s of releases coming this summer and many more Blu Parties. Releases – we have some things coming up with Joe Pompeo, Love & Logic and Mark Vidovik. We will be returning to Chicago and Los Angeles this summer.”
Other than the You Know How it Goes Ep, Any new music and will you be releasing it during Movement?
“Yes! I have a bunch of music. I’ll be playing my next single’s on Hot Since 82’s label, Knee Deep in Sound and Roger Sanchez’s label Undr the Rdr. I just released a new one on Kinetika Records called Hella Dope as well that is out now. I also have another one coming on Gene Farris’s label called The Throwdown coming out in a few weeks.”

What artists did you listen to before producing techno and house music?
“The artists I listened to before I made dance were artists like Madonna, Jamiroquai, Daft Punk. I loved all kinds of dance music.”
What would be your ideal dream collaboration?
“Dream collaboration, definitely Green Velvet.”
Any inspiring words for up-and-coming DJs?
“Learn work ethic and figure out the business. Learn to work smart. Nothing worse than working and getting bitter because you aren’t doing it right.”
