Control Forever and Giant Presented Blood Sweat and Bass at Avalon on Friday in Hollywood featuring Bare, Dieselboy, Downlink, Mark The Beast and Aweminus. People say the crowds can be hard to please in the Los Angeles area yet these guys had zero trouble. The entire night from start to finish is what I love to see at a show, which far exceeded my expectations that were already high for this event. My apologies to Aweminus for I did not catch his set.
Right from the start of my night, Bare had the crowd hyped with a Bass heavy set full of classic Gems from the heydays of 2012 Dubstep, as well as newer tracks that absolutely crushed it. Next was Dieselboy, whom I recently saw down at Middlelands; this man is an absolute professional. The ebb and flow of a Dieselboy set is pure drum and bass perfection. His sets are a perfect combination of rhythm and filth. Following this set was Downlink whose bass nearly took Avalon’s walls down, which have been standing since 1927. Downlink's ability to fold sound over on itself in a blend of the absolute best of what the dubstep scene has to offer is what puts this producer in the top tier. The final act of the night was Mark the Beast, whose song I’m In Love With The Devil has been a staple in great bass sets since its release. To my delight, his set started with multiple live vocalists. Mark The Beast earned his chops in the basement of Webster Hall and has honed his skill to dominate clubs and festivals all over the world.
I have been to more than your average amount of shows in recent years, this one will stick out when I think back on the best of the bunch. Blood Sweat and Bass is not a show to be missed. New York, do not sleep on this one, your chance is June 23rd at Webster Hall.
