There is just no slowing down for Bassnectar. The spinster is at it again, releasing his latest 6-track EP, Reflective.
Lorin Ashton truly takes us back to his roots with this one, showcasing the type of sound that made him the bass pioneer he is today. Filled with dreamy soundscapes, melodic bass and a couple of epic basshead anthems, Reflective is a compilation of tracks that do just as great on their own as they do listened to in album order.
The talent brought on this EP is unmatched.
Mimi Page returns as the lead vocals on the beautiful and mesmerizing, “Was Will Be.” Her and Bassnectar have worked together several times in the past, creating tracks like “Butterfly” and “Breathless.”
Also on the lighter, melodic side are “Arps of Revolución” and “Horizons” featuring Dorfex Bos. These tracks fall under the category of more soundscape and song, effortlessly flowing through your ears. Put on some headphones, close your eyes and immerse yourself in these tracks.
When you think about the signature Bassnectar sound “I’m Up” (a collaboration with Gnar Gnar featuring Born I Music) and “Infrared” fit the mold perfectly. Both these tracks feature powerful drops and classic hip hop samples.
It’s no surprise that the heaviest track is the collaboration with G Jones, “Underground”. Both producers have dropped this track in recent live sets, and it’s sure to become the headbanging rebel anthem of the summer.
Bassnectar has quite the schedule coming up as well, playing both weekends of Electric Forest this month. In July, Ashton will host the three-night “Freestyle Sessions” in Colorado. This event will be a 90s throwback event featuring acid jazz, experimental hip-hop and no cell phones allowed. Then finally, the annual Basscenter will take place in September.
