Music streaming services such as Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, and YouTube have helped the music industry in unspeakable ways. But how much are artists actually earning for the streaming services?
According to a new report by Information is Beautiful, for every 1,000 plays an unsigned artist receives results in roughly $6.40 on Apple Music, $3.80 from Spotify and just $0.60 from YouTube. Artists who are signed earn typically $7.30 from Apple Music, $4.40 from Spotify, but still only $0.70 from YouTube for every 1,000 plays.
Unlike Information is Beautiful's report, the RIAA also did their own analysis and found that for every 1,000 streams, artists receive $12 from Apple Music, $7.50 from Spotify, and $1.50 from YouTube.
