Interview
What got you into making music, specifically electronic dance music?
NOA | AON (real name, Pavel Stuchlik): My entire family is full of musicians. My grandfather considered music to be his whole life and he was a performer, so it’s in me. I personally love electronic dance music or EDM as it’s called, as that’s what we party on growing-up in Europe. I’m originally from the Czech Republic. I love the beat because of the energy, specifically house, tech-house or loop-based music. That’s the music closest to my heart. The beat gives me one of the most transformative, meditative experiences. After travelling on a spiritual retreat a few years ago to Thailand, music alone became my sort of religion. Making music is when I can use my creativity and ideas, and it feels like creativity never stops flowing!
Where did the name NOA | AON come from and does it have a special meaning to you?
NOA | AON: NOA means movement and AON is self-reflection. AON also stands for, “all or none.” Connecting both together is about the duality we live in. You can think of it like the middle lane is the present moment or the connection between both worlds. My personality loves to chill and relax, but I also love to party and get crazy and dance. This is a way for me to do both.
Who are some of your biggest musical inspirations?
NOA | AON: Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Swedish House Mafia, and the Buddha Bar label in general.
Who are some artists you are listening to now?
NOA | AON: Mees Dierdorp, Goldcap and Kill Frenzy are what I’m lately in love with.
Thanks for the mix! What goes into making a mix like this, and what are some songs in this mix that stand out to you?
NOA | AON: I love having a variety of songs. My biggest thing is blending older, known songs with a new, modern beat. On this mix, I felt like partying and getting more energized.
What are some things you like to do in spare time when not making music?
NOA | AON: Running my multiple successful businesses is still huge for me. I have companies around the world. I was the leading franchise leader of the very successful OrangeTheory Fitness chain of health and wellness centers with over a thousand locations around the world. I recently divested my shares in OTF so I can devote myself full-time to being a professional DJ and producer. Family time with my two babies and my beautiful wife is, of course, also hugely important to me. Yoga, fitness and meditation would be the third.
What does the fall have in store for NOA | AON?
NOA | AON: In December, I’ll be releasing the first of two E.P.s. One will be released as NOA, and the other one as AON.
Favorite home-cooked meal?
NOA | AON: Anything from Bulletproof Diet.
Favorite junk food?
NOA | AON: Chick-fil-A.
