NGHTMRE did not make his name off of making tame, status quo productions. From the very beginning the artist has pushed the boundaries of what is excepted in dance music. His forward thinking sound design, and new, genre defining arrangements have made his sound instantly recognizable. In his latest release named, ‘The Killer', NGHTMRE pushed the limits even for himself. But did the risks pay off or end up falling flat?
‘The Killer' was a track that took a few listens to truly absorb. At first it seemed to lack a necessary energy. Something seemed to be missing. But the more I listened to this tune, I started to realize – that was the point. ‘The Killer', true to it's name, is slow and deliberate. Large and powerful trap arrangements punctuate wonky and stabbing melodic sections. This is downright a piece of program music, it tells a story and let me tell you – it is dark – but it is fucking good. Check it out below.
