The Australian government legalizing same sex marriage has been one of the great social triumphs in 2017. A movement that start with vocal advocates for same sex marriages helped start a conversation that escalated in a full scale vote of the country's population through the mail. After that it was clear, Australia was overwhelmingly in favor of same sex marriage rights. This brought the issue to parliament who pushed the referendum through and made it law. It even ended with a member of the Australian parliament proposing to his long time boyfriend on the floor of the debate.
An Old Promise Comes Back To Life
It was a heart warming story for sure, but there has been a couple funny instances which have come up upon the legalization of same sex marriage. Twitter user Fillip Odzak has what might be the best anecdote. In 2012 apparently he had a conversation with Calvin Harris about the legalization of same sex marriage in Australia. Calvin agreed that if same sex marriage was written into law he would remix and release a remix of the Spice Girls hit ‘2 Becomes 1'.
The tweet has picked up international attention as news outlets ranging from USA Today to the Daily Mail UK have reported on the fun story. Is it legit? Nobody can be sure, but we all low key hope Calvin responds and drops a tasty remix honoring the historic decision.
